Problem running Android SDK – Windows XP

If you are running over Windows XP you need to install specific versions of Android SDK Tools and Android SDK Platform-tools, follow this 2 steps.

Step 1

Problem: when you try to execute adb.exe under your platform-tools of your android SDK you receive a message like this.

Solution: this error is due to Windows XP does not support versions of Android SDK platform-tools later than 23.
In order to fix it and get android running you should downgrade your platform-tools version following these steps:

  1. Find your Android SDK folder
  2. Locate the “platform-tools” subfolder and rename it to “platform-tools-backup” (just to keep a backup copy of the original platform-tools folder).
  3. Download from google repository the folder version to downgrade from http://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools_r23-windows.zip and unzip it.
  4. The unzipped  folder contains a platform-tools folder that has to be moved to your Android SDK folder replacing the once we backup in step 1.
  5. Now, when you execute the adb.exe it should work.

 

Step 2

Problem: when you try to execute emulator.exe under your tools of your android SDK you receive a message like this.

Solution: this error is due to Windows XP does not support versions of Android SDK tools later than 24.4.1.
In order to fix it and get android running you should downgrade your tools version following these steps:

  1. Find your Android SDK folder
  2. Locate the “tools” subfolder and rename it to “tools-backup” (just to keep a backup copy of the original tools folder).
  3. Download from google repository the folder version to downgrade from http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repository/tools_r24.4.1-windows.zip and unzip it.
  4. The unzipped  folder contains a tools folder that has to be moved to your Android SDK folder replacing the once we backup in step 1.
  5. Now, when you execute the emulator from AVD Manager it should work.
